McKay, I read with interest your piece, "Brother Can You Spare A Nickel."

Later this year, I'm publishing a children's picture book on the monetary system (more fun than it sounds!) which leads kids on a treasure hunt for Pennies & Nickels at the end. Really, it's for the benefit of the young generation that will have to cope with an unstable currrency and equally for the edification of adults and financial professionals who just don't understand the nature of money. I announced it to the Realcent.org folks here: http://www.realcent.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8345

Anyway, I thought you might find it noteworthy. If you're inclined, I'll send you a copy of the manuscript.

Regards,
Ian

I felt the article was very well-done. It showed a respectful balance that is not easy to achieve.

The cover didn't bother me at all. I presume it was a symbolic combining of two extremes--one the upright and very Mormon Romney and the other a distasteful musical. I'm pretty stuffy and formal myself, and if someone had put my head on that picture (making it a female missionary, of course), it would be on my desk right now. That's my standard for deciding how to feel about something--if it were me, would I like it? SInce I'd never pose that way, being unable to carry it off, I'd get a kick out of having something so silly done of me. Of course, I'm not running for president. Maybe that makes a difference, but the truth, is he would be getting no publicity from the picture if it were the normal perfect-hair photo. For a candidate, it's all about the publicity and he is getting a lot of it from this...and didn't even have to create a scandal to do it.

Mr. Coppins
In responce to your recent newsweek cover and quote - what a shame to know that you are calling yourself a Mormon and representIng yourself as such. A true Latter-Day Saint that stands true to what they believe would never induldge themselves insuch behavior and then call Romney on the carpet to stand up and be a true believer. He has been very open and honest in what he believes. Huntsman skirted around the issue and then addressed it. To say it would help if they would stand up to what they believe - may I ask what you are doing? Claiming yourself to be Mormon and yet depicting us like complete idiots?!? That is what your picture on the cover of Newsweek says. Why don't you keep your mouth shut because you like many other Americans obviously don't know what a true Mormon is. We are very Christian and since when did religion become the campaign to run on? After all - is Obama Muslim? All signs point to that. Cancelling the National Day of Prayer yet meeting with thousands of Muslims afterward for a day of worship? Wasn't this Nation founded "Under God"? Why is it that we accept Obama and what he has done yet Romney who is a Christian, God-fearing , successful man be the satire of a national magazine published by someone who by saying they are Mormon and claiming to be that same Christian and God-fearing person? What idiocrosy on your part. What a disappointment. And by the way there are 14 million of us not 6 million. You might want to read your own quote and look yourself in the mirror and decide when you want to truly stand up for what you believe. The cover of Newsweek with Romney is ridiculous! What a disappointment!!!

The cover was done in poor taste. It is reminiscent of the caricatures of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and its members of the 1800's. I would have hoped that your industry would have evolved above that over the last 150 years. A picture can be worth 1000 words, but 1000 good words will not undo the caricature made by your employer. It would torment me to associate my name with such a caricature.
